1 Killed, 26 Injured in Firecracker Factory Blast in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi

Thoothukudi: One person was killed and 26 others were injured in an explosion at a fireworks manufacturing facility near Ettayapuram in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district on Saturday, police said.
The incident took place at Balaji Fire Factory in Ayan Rajapatti while workers were busy with production activities. According to Masarpatti Police Station, the deceased was identified as Mariammal, a resident of Nathathupatti who worked in the factory.
Authorities said that 26 workers were injured in the explosion and three of them were in critical condition. The injured were taken to Sattur State Hospital for treatment.
The explosion caused great damage to the factory building. Two rooms were partially damaged and in danger of collapse, while three rooms were completely destroyed.
Personnel from Fire and Rescue Services departments in Kovilpatti and Vilathikulam reached the spot and initiated rescue operations. Authorities are also searching the debris to determine if any workers were trapped in the damaged structure.
Detailed information about the cause of the explosion is awaited.
In the early hours of Saturday, a massive fire broke out in an electronics enclosure at Road No. 7 of Shahdara, Delhi’s Bihari Colony.
Fire Station Officer Anoop Singh told ANI, “We received a report of a fire at 4.50-4.51 am. When we reached here, we found that it was a shelter of electronic items. We made all efforts and brought the fire under control. It took us an hour to bring the fire under control.”
Six vehicles from the Delhi Fire Brigade were sent to the spot to carry out fire-fighting operations and prevent the flames from spreading to nearby structures.
