Australian Open tennis results 2026: Alex De Minaur, Jordan Thompson, Ajla Tomljanović, Priscilla Hon

“The Demon” defeated American Mackenzie McDonald in just 2 hours on Monday to advance to the second round.

On Wednesday night, De Minaur lost the first set against Novak Djokovic’s protégé and Serbian Hamad Medjedovic in a tiebreak and then finished the match 2-6, 2-6, 1-6 to advance to the third round.

De Minaur will face French Frances Tiafoe on Friday, January 23, and the venue and time of the match have not yet been announced.

Jordan Thompson (eliminated in round 2)

Thompson dropped the first set to Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerundolo in Monday’s first-round tiebreak, but was able to advance in subsequent sets.

Thompson suffered a 6-7 (9-11), 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 defeat to Portuguese Nuno Borges in the marathon match played on Wednesday. The 31-year-old Sydney player took a break in the third set after a foot fault, which was followed by a second serve error.

Rinky Hijikata

The 24-year-old player advanced to the second round by beating Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in straight sets on Monday night.

Hijikata will face Moroccan Valentin Vacherot on Thursday, January 22, with the match scheduled for 11:00 at the Show Court Arena.

Dane Sweeny

In a special moment, Dane Sweeny scored his first major grand slam win against 6-time ATP Tour champion and tournament mainstay Gaël Monfils in an epic 4-set first round at the Show Court Arena.

The first set went to a tiebreak before Sweeny defeated the French showman in his final Australian Open match in the following sets, 7-5, 6-4, 7-5.

Sweeny’s next opponent is much tougher. He will face the world’s Ben Shelton, who defeated Frenchman Ugo Humbert in straight sets on Tuesday, at the John Cain Arena in the match scheduled for Thursday, January 22 at 12.10.

James Duckworth

It took 4 hours and 21 minutes, but 33-year-old James Duckworth advanced to the second round by knocking out Croatia’s Dino Prizmic in an epic battle on Court 7 on Tuesday night.

Duckworth won the first set in the tiebreak before her opponent staged a spectacular comeback to win the next two sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-1. Duckworth retaliated and took the fourth set 7-5 before defeating the plucky Prizmic 6-3 in the fifth.

Duckworth won’t have it easy in her second round match against world No. 2 Jannik Sinner on Thursday, January 22 at Rod Laver Arena. The match is planned to be held at 19.00.

The 32-year-old staged a bold first-round comeback after losing the first set 6-4 against Ukrainian Yuliia Volodymyrivna Starodubtseva on Monday night at the John Cain Arena.

Despite making another comeback early in the second set against Elena-Gabriela Ruse on Wednesday night, Tomljanović fell to the Romanian team in sets 6-4, 6-4.

Talia Gibson (eliminated in the second round)

The 21-year-old wild card earned the best win of her career with a dominant 6-1, 6-3 straight performance against Russian Anna Blinkova on Monday.

Gibson lost her second round match against Diana Shnaider on Wednesday in a tough fight, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Priscilla Hon (eliminated in the 2nd round)

Hon won her first Australian Open match in six years against Canadian Marina Stakusic on Monday with a score of 1-6, 6-4, 5-3 after two hours of play.

After Stakusic suffered severe cramps in the final set, Hon showed extraordinary sportsmanship by helping his injured opponent remain in a wheelchair at Stadium Australia.

Unfortunately, Hon was no match for American Iva Jović on Wednesday night, losing 6-1, 6-2 at Rod Laver Arena.

Storm Chaser (eliminated in the second round)

The 2022 US Open mixed doubles champion defeated Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 6-4 on Monday to advance to the second round.

Hunter was eliminated in the second round on Wednesday. American rising star Hailey Baptiste proved that her opponent was very tough, winning the match with scores of 6-2, 6-1.

Taylah Preston

Wildcard Taylah Preston stunned Kia Arena on Tuesday, dispatching world No. 15 Zhang Shuai in doubles 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 to book a place in the second round.

The 20-year-old Australian looked emotional as he made the late break to finish the match and spoke on the field.

“I’m really happy to get my first grand slam victory today,” he said.

Preston will face Linda Nosková from the Czech Republic on Thursday, January 22 at the Show Court Arena, with the match scheduled for 12.40pm.

Maddison Inglis

Maddison Inglis defeated fellow Australian Kimberly Birrell on Tuesday night, with the first two sets of the match decided by tiebreaks. Inglis won the final set 6-4 and took his place in the second round.

Inglis will face German Laura Siegemund in the match scheduled for 13:00 on Thursday, January 22 at the Australian Stadium.
