10 random weekend shootings leave 4 injured in Austin, Texas, mayor says

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Two people are in custody and a third suspect is being sought after four people were injured in Austin, Texas, after at least 10 random shootings, including at fire stations, over the weekend, city officials said Sunday.
The city had ordered residents to shelter in place in much of the southern area of the Texas capital on Sunday while the search continued. The warrant was later lifted, with the two suspects in custody, the Austin Police Department said in a post on X.
Police Chief Lisa Davis said the attacks occurred Saturday night and Sunday morning, two at fire stations, with one person seriously injured and three others slightly injured.
Davis said the suspects appeared to be stealing vehicles while traveling.
“We don’t have any specific motive identified. In fact, these actions appear to be random,” Mayor Kirk Watson said. “Apparently people are switching vehicles as part of this.”
At least four vehicles were used by the suspects, Davis said.
