106 kg of ganja seized in Puttur in coastal Karnataka, 2 arrested

Puttur Rural Police arrested two persons on January 19 for possession of hashish (marijuana/ganja) and seized 106 kg contraband worth ₹ 53 lakh.
Puttur Rural Police, acting on specific information, stopped a car and a mini cargo vehicle at Sajankadi in Paduvannur village on January 19, Dakshina Kannada District Police said. He said that while he found 100 grams of marijuana in the vehicle, he found 106 kg of marijuana packaged in 73 packages in the cargo vehicle.
Police named the driver of the vehicle as P. Rafique, 37, and the driver of the goods carrier as Abdul Sadique, 37, both residents of Charmadi village of Belthangady taluk.
The accused told the police that they were transporting the marijuana for sale in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka and Kasargod district of Kerala.
Police seized the suspect’s marijuana, two vehicles and two mobile phones. Puttur Rural Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The operation was carried out by a team headed by Sub-Inspector J. Gunapala and comprising Harish, Harshith, Prashanth Rai, Praveen Rai, Bhavit Rai, Nagaraj, Satish, Ramesh, Subramani and Vinod.
