Royal family faces fresh Andrew nightmare as FBI is urged to reopen probe into former prince’s Epstein ties

The agents behind the grim façade of the FBI’s headquarters at 935 Pennsylvania Avenue are no doubt watching with passing interest the scandal enveloping the British royal family.

Whether there is a current FBI investigation into Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor remains a closely guarded secret. The agency often operates quietly, refusing to confirm or deny whether there are active investigations.

But calls for action from American G-Men are increasing following the arrest of the former prince in England.

Spencer Kuvin, a lawyer representing Jeffrey Epstein’s victims, told the Daily Mail: “If there is an active US investigation that touches on conduct linked to American victims or US territory, then the Federal Bureau of Investigation should certainly seek to engage with him through the appropriate legal channels.”

‘The United States and the United Kingdom have well-established mutual legal assistance mechanisms. Cooperation between governments is critical in cross-border abuse cases. ‘Survivors deserve full disclosure of the facts – wherever those facts take you.’

Andrew appears to have been taken away from the police station after being arrested on suspicion of abuse of public office on February 19, 2026.

Andrew, 66, was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of abuse of public office. He was detained for 11 hours before being released as part of the investigation.

He is accused of sharing sensitive information with late pedophile financier Epstein while serving as UK trade envoy.

Andrew has previously vehemently denied any wrongdoing regarding his connections to Epstein.

If any information in the public misconduct case is found to relate to US companies, then Andrew could also be investigated in America, according to the lawyer for the Epstein victims.

“Given the historical relationship between Andrew and Jeffrey Epstein, any credible evidence of financial misconduct within U.S. jurisdiction requires a comprehensive review,” Kuvin said.

He added: ‘If no US information was traded, the UK alone is likely to assert jurisdiction over such crimes.’

An FBI spokesman said: ‘The FBI declines to comment.’

Last July, Andrew was given support when an internal FBI memo revealed that the agency was not anticipating further charges against anyone related to Epstein at that time.

Investigators said they found ‘no evidence that would warrant an investigation against third parties who were not charged’.

Videos and photographs seized from Epstein’s homes in New York, Florida and the Virgin Islands did not indicate anyone else was involved in his crimes, according to the statement.

But since Andrew’s arrest in the UK, there has been new pressure from members of Congress to renew or intensify investigations in the US.

Republican congressman Thomas Massie, who was behind the legislation that led to the release of the Epstein files, wrote to X: ‘Prince Andrew has just been arrested. That’s the measure I set for the success of the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

‘We need JUSTICE in the USA now. It’s time for Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel to act!’

Pressure for Andrew to testify before Congress is also reaching fever pitch.

The House Oversight Committee, which is investigating the Epstein scandal, wrote a letter to Andrew in November, requesting that he be interviewed as part of the investigation.

Suhas Subramanyam, the committee’s Democratic congressman, said after his arrest: ‘He continued to ignore our calls to cooperate with the Oversight Committee’s investigation. We hope the arrest will lead to answers and show that no matter how rich and powerful you are, even if you hide, there will be accountability.’

The file of information on Andrew at FBI headquarters has been slowly growing for 15 years.

The Epstein files show he was first mentioned in the FBI’s investigation into Epstein in 2011, when agents traveled to Australia to interview a victim of the financier.

The woman’s name was redacted but she turned out to be Virginia Giuffre.

In the interview, she claimed that Epstein abused her and that she was sold to other men, including Andrew, by Ghislaine Maxwell.

Andrew claimed that when he was 17, Maxwell had sexual intercourse with him at his home in London and that Epstein gave her an ‘erotic massage’ at his home in New York.

Andrew has always vehemently denied Giuffre’s claims, including during a Newsnight interview in 2019. Giuffre took her own life last year.

In 2019, an internal Justice Department memo showed that prosecutors wanted to talk to Andrew as part of the Epstein investigation.

The note said: ‘We are in the process of obtaining the name of a lawyer to represent Prince Andrew. We plan to request an interview once we receive this contact information.’

The following year, Manhattan US attorney Geoffrey Berman publicly accused Andrew of giving ‘zero’ aid.

Berman said: ‘Prince Andrew has now completely closed the door on voluntary cooperation and our office is considering its options.’

The Epstein files reveal that Andrew’s lawyer later privately asked Justice Department officials to stop making such statements.

The lawyer said Andrew ‘needs to gather information from the Royal Household and others’ so he can cooperate.

Epstein had offered to arrange a dinner for Andrew with a 26-year-old Russian woman who was 'smart, beautiful and trustworthy' and said: 'She has your email.' The former prince, who was 50 at the time, said he would 'be very happy to see her'. And he cheerfully asked the convicted child sex predator, whose house arrest had ended a few days ago: 'Is it nice to be free?'

Justice Department officials have made a formal request for British authorities to question Andrew as a witness in connection with the Epstein investigation.

This was a request made under the Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) agreement between the two countries.

Later, agreements between the two countries regarding whether Andrew would cooperate became even more sensitive.

On August 24, 2021, a British government official wrote to the US Embassy in London: ‘We are aware that a civil lawsuit has been filed (by Virginia Giuffre) in New York regarding the Epstein investigation, in which the material witness (Andrew) is the defendant.

‘Can you please tell us what impact this has on the material witness’s current status as a witness in the criminal investigation and in relation to the MLA request?’

A US Embassy official forwarded this to the Department of Justice in Washington, writing: ‘I think they (the British) are asking whether, in light of the latest allegations, Andrew is “now (in British parlance) a suspect rather than a witness.”

‘I was going to answer simply ‘none’ but I thought I should check first… The sooner the better because Ambar is willing to figure this out.’

It turns out that ‘Amb’ is a reference to the US ambassador in London.

The Epstein files also show that Brits complained about leaks in the US and that Andrew’s “refusal to talk” to Epstein investigators “strained relations” between Britain and the US.

Andrew’s last known visit to the US was to visit Epstein in New York in 2010.

There are reports, based on friends, that he is ‘scared’ of returning if he is arrested.

“It is unknown if there is an ongoing criminal investigation in the United States, but this fear may prevent Andrew from traveling to the United States for vacation or visiting friends,” said immigration attorney Melissa Chavin.

He said that if Andrew agreed to provide evidence to Congress, he could be given a guarantee that he would not be arrested.

This may be done under a program run by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for expert witnesses.

‘ICE facilitates parole requests from government agencies like the FBI and the Department of Justice,’ he said.

‘ICE coordinates with the consulate where the witness is located, such as the US Embassy in London, to authorize parole. The witness will be carefully monitored while in the United States and will leave the country immediately after his statement.’

Andrew has likely lost the special royal visa he received to enter the US, he told the Daily Mail.

The A-1 ‘Head of State’ visa allows holders to come and go as they please in the United States with minimal security checks and receive special treatment at airports.

The names of these visas are put forward by foreign governments and approved by the US Secretary of State.

He said it was likely that Britain had ‘issued visa request lists’ for Andrew some time ago.
