Trump warns UK ‘US won’t be there to help you anymore’ in extraordinary tirade over Iran war backing

In an extraordinary rant about the war in Iran, Donald Trump warned Britain that “the US will no longer be there to help you, just as you are not there for us”.

The US President has reignited his row with Sir Keir Starmer by lashing out at the Labor government, which he said “refused to be involved in the decapitation of Iran” and telling it to “show some long overdue courage”.

He told Britain and other countries not involved in attacks against Iran that they should ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz, which is vital for the world’s energy resources.

He posted on the Truth Social platform: “For all the countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the UK that refuses to be involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: No. 1, buy from the USA, we have lots of it, and No. 2, gather some belated courage, go to the Strait and just BUY. You will have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the USA will no longer be there to help you, just as you were not there for us. Most of Iran has been destroyed. Now buy your own oil President DJT.

The remarks follow reports that President Trump told top aides that he was considering withdrawing from the conflict without a plan to open the Strait.

This would result in Tehran retaining control of the vital shipping lane and prolong economic chaos around the world.

Iran imposed a de facto blockade of the waterway, disrupting global oil and gas supplies, causing energy prices to soar. The Islamic Republic allowed some ships to pass through a “toll booth” system, paying up to $2 million per trip depending on certain political and financial conditions.

The prolonged shutdown threatens to disrupt the world’s energy supply, while oil prices continue to rise above $100 per barrel for the first time since 2022.
