25yo woman drowns at popular swimming spot near Alice Springs

A 25-year-old woman drowned at a popular watering hole near Alice Springs.

Emergency services received reports of CPR being performed on a woman at Ellery Creek Big Hole at around 12.50am on Sunday.

Medical teams came to the scene and saved lives, but the woman could not be saved.

While detectives investigated the woman’s death, a crime scene was established and the area was closed to the public.

Police are urging all visitors to be mindful of waterways and follow safety advice in remote locations.

The 27-metre deep impoundment is among West MacDonnell National Park’s popular camping, hiking, swimming and picnic spots.
