3 Indians Dead, 5 Missing After Boat Capsizes Off Mozambique’s Beira Port | India News

In a shocking incident, the Indian High Commission in Mozambique has confirmed that at least three Indian citizens are dead and five others are missing after a launch boat carrying the crew of a tanker capsized off the port of Beira in central Mozambique.

The incident occurred during a routine crew transfer operation to a ship anchored offshore on Friday (local time). The boat, carrying a total of 14 Indian nationals, capsized for an undetermined reason.

The High Commission stated that some of the crew involved in the accident were rescued, while others are still missing. In a series of posts on X, the delegation expressed their condolences for the loss of life. The High Commission said, “We express our sincere condolences for the loss of life, including three Indian citizens, in the boat accident that occurred off the port of Beira. The Mission is in contact with the families of those who lost their lives in this unfortunate accident and is offering them all possible assistance.”

According to sources, five Indian citizens were successfully rescued from the accident and are safe. One of the survivors is currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Beira. A consular officer from the Indian Mission visited the survivor to ensure appropriate care. The High Commission confirmed that the other rescued persons were safe.

Search and rescue efforts are continuing to find the five missing Indians. Local authorities, maritime agencies and the Indian High Commission are coordinating the efforts. “Boat accident: Search and rescue efforts are ongoing. The mission is coordinating with local authorities regarding the 5 missing Indians,” the High Commission said in an update. The Indian Mission assured that it is monitoring the situation closely and will remain in close contact with local authorities as the search continues.

The High Commission has promised continued support to the families of those affected and is cooperating with local authorities to ensure the rapid rescue and recovery of missing persons.

As of now, from official figures there are three confirmed deaths, five missing and five rescued. Authorities in Mozambique, along with the Indian High Commission, are actively working to locate missing crew members and provide assistance to survivors and their families.

While the investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing, further updates are expected once search and rescue operations are completed.
