What is the Starting Salary?
In the video, Dolesh talks about meeting two software engineers from Bengaluru at an Indian restaurant in Japan. Curious about wage trends, he asks them about entry-level salaries in the country’s tech sector. “What is the starter pack for software engineers in Japan?” Dolesh asks. Engineers said startups typically earn around ₹3 million a year, which translates into around ₹17 lakh.
Salary Increase After Experience
Dolesh then continues: “So what is the annual income after two or three years of experience?”
One of the engineers replies: “It will be around 4.5 to 5 million yen.”
Reacting to this figure, Dolesh says, “So it is almost double.” Engineers explain that the salary will amount to around 30 lakhs per annum in Indian currency.
Tax Factor
But the discussion also touches on cuts. Engineers reveal that they pay close to ₹3 lakh in taxes annually, highlighting the higher tax brackets in Japan.
The video sparked outrage online. One user said, “Everyone might want to see and hear this, but in reality things are different. They know what their situation is there.”
Another wrote: “15 lakh salary and 3 lakh tax means promise.”
A third user asked: “Are they doing something for passive income? I think this package is still too low considering taxes.”
