3 persons held for possession of drugs in Tiruvannamalai

Three persons were arrested by Tiruvannamalai Taluk police for possession of 54 grams of Methylphenidate in powder form on Vengaikaal – Kottapalayam Main Road in Vengaikaal village near Collection office in Tiruvannamalai town.
Police said the arrested persons were identified as B.Tech graduate T. Satish Karthi (25), taxi driver M. Balaji (24) and unemployed R. Gowtham (25). Apart from Gowtham, a native of Bengaluru, the other two are from Vengaikaal village of Tiruvannamalai town.
Initial investigation revealed that following a tip-off, Superintendent of Police (SP) M. Sudhakar formed special teams to carry out surprise vehicle checks on Vengaikaal – Kottapalayam Main Road.
Police said it was around 11 a.m. when a team of officers stopped the trio in a sedan on the road.
The police searched them and found the powdered form of the psychotropic drug in two packets from Balaji. The gang told the police that they brought these from drug dealers in Bengaluru and returned to the temple town to sell them at retail.
Police seized the drugs and the vehicle. A case was registered. The trio was lodged in the Central Jail in Vellore. An investigation is ongoing.
