3,000 kg of Suspected Adulterated Sweets Seized in Indore
Indore: During the ongoing festive season, authorities seized around 3,000 kg of mawa (milk solids), ghee and sweets on suspicion of adulteration in Indore on Tuesday, a food department official said. He said these items were seized from passenger buses in the city of Madhya Pradesh ahead of the Diwali festival, when demand is very high.
Food Safety Officer Avshesh Agarwal told PTI that based on a tip-off, around 3,000 kg of mawa used to make sweets and other dishes and sweets estimated to be worth between Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh were seized from various private buses near Pipliyahana junction. These buses come to Indore from Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) and Ahmedabad (Gujarat), he said.
Agarwal warned, “We suspect that there is counterfeiting in the seized food items. The samples are sent to the laboratory for testing. If the suspicions (that the items are fake) are confirmed during the examination, action will be taken in accordance with the relevant legal provisions.”
