4 killed, 10 injured as bus catches fire after colliding with tanker in Gujarat’s Surendranagar

Four passengers were burned to death and 10 people suffered burn injuries when a bus crashed into a tanker and caught fire in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district in the early hours of Thursday, May 14, 2026, officials said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police SS Bhadoriya said that the incident took place around 1.30 am near Sangani village on the Chotila-Rajkot National Highway.
The private luxury bus was traveling from Ahmedabad to Rajkot when it collided with an asphalt-laden tanker moving in front of it. The bus caught fire after the collision near Chotila.
Mr Bhadoriya said there were around 40 passengers on the bus and many of them were rescued.
Deputy Collector HT Makwana said, “Four passengers were burnt alive as a result of the collision between a private bus and a tanker full of asphalt.”
According to the police statement, 10 people were injured in the incident.
Mr Makwana said the injured persons were referred to Rajkot civil hospital and the bodies were transferred to Chotila referral hospital for post-mortem.
The fire team arrived at the scene upon notice and took the fire under control and extinguished it.
