4-Year-Old Child Who Fell into Borewell in Ambala Brought out Dead

– Packaging: A four-year-old boy who fell into a 220-metre-deep open borehole in Haryana’s Ambala district was declared dead after he was pulled out following a 21-hour rescue operation in the early hours of Wednesday. Nirvair Singh was removed from the borehole at around 3.40am following a multi-agency operation that began on Tuesday morning. He was immediately transferred to the Civil Hospital in Ambala Cantonment by ambulance.
The doctor at the hospital said the child died when he was taken to the emergency room.
The incident took place around 6.30 am on Tuesday in Dhaneora village of Ambala district. Nirvair had accompanied his father Manjit to the fields to distribute food to his grandfather Karnail Singh.
According to the family, Karnail went to work in the fields early in the morning and Manjit came later with food. Nirvair insisted on accompanying his father, who agreed to take him with him.
After reaching the field, Manjit started working and Karnail Singh started eating. Sitting next to his grandfather, Nirvair soon went to play. He noticed an open borehole and started dumping soil into it. It is believed that wet soil around the borehole caused him to slip and fall as he leaned over to look inside.
Manjit said they heard a loud noise and immediately ran to the borehole and called out to the child. The family and surrounding villagers initially tried to rescue him on their own, but when their efforts failed, they alerted authorities around 7.30am.
Deputy Commissioner Ajay Singh Tomar and other administrative officials soon reached the spot, following which rescue teams from NDRF, SDRF and Army launched a massive operation.
The borehole, which is about nine inches in diameter, is about 220 feet deep, Tomar said. He said that the administration took immediate action after receiving information about the incident and activated emergency response teams.
Haryana Cabinet Minister Anil Vij also visited the area on Tuesday evening to review the rescue operation and met the boy’s family.
Police have been instructed to take action as per rules against those responsible for leaving the borehole open, the deputy commissioner said on Tuesday.
Calling on farmers, Tomar said that the tragedy could have been prevented if the borehole had been closed properly and urged them not to leave the boreholes open.
Last month, a four-year-old boy was rescued in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district after he fell into a newly dug borewell near his home. He was stranded at a depth of approximately 20 to 30 feet and was safely extracted after a nearly nine-hour rescue operation involving multiple agencies and local volunteers.
In 2006, a five-year-old boy named Prince, who fell into a borehole in a village in Haryana’s Kurukshetra district, was rescued after a major 48-hour operation; This event shook the country.
