40 years since Christopher Abeyta’s disappearance; how common are infant abductions?
This week our “Missing” series looks at the case of Christopher Abeyta of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The 7-month-old baby’s family was sleeping next to him when he was taken from his crib in the middle of the night. This week will mark the 40th anniversary of the disappearance. Even though his parents are dead, his sister is more determined than ever to bring him home.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children tells us that baby abductions are extremely rare, with over 340 confirmed cases reported in the United States in the last 60 years. NewsNation members have followed this story for years, speaking with those closest to the case, including the confession from Christopher’s father that deadlocked the case. This week Marni Hughes is joined by NCMEC’s Angeline Hartmann. The duo talks about this case and the risk factors to consider in baby abduction cases.
