Sri Lankan Navy arrests 24 fishermen from T.N., Karaikal

The Sri Lankan Navy arrested 24 fishermen from two mechanized boats for allegedly fishing in the island nation’s waters late on Friday, February 13, 2026. They were detained at the Kankesanthurai naval base for questioning. Most of them came from Karaikal district.
According to sources, there were 14 fishermen in one of the boats, including one from Mayiladuthurai district and five from Nagapattinam district. The second boat had 10 fishermen, including one from Mayiladuthurai and seven from Nagapattinam.
The fishermen, who set sail from Karaikal fishing port on February 11, were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy late on Friday for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line.
