Rudy Giuliani’s tense exchange with Mayor Mamdani at 9/11 memorial after public spat over Ground Zero air quality: Live updates
Zohran Mamdani and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani were seen shaking hands outside of the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum today following a tense public spat about Ground Zero air quality.
The former and current New York City mayors came to blows after Giuliani claimed it ‘offended’ him that Mamdani, the city’s first Muslim mayor, would attend the 25th anniversary memorial service for lives lost in the terror attacks.
Days before the ceremony, Mamdani released 170,000 pages of confidential 9/11 records, publicly accusing former city leaders of ‘lying’ about the air quality at Ground Zero after the towers collapsed.
On September 11, 2001, al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four passenger planes, flying two of them into the World Trade Center and one into the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Passengers and crew on the fourth plane fought back against the hijackers and crashed the aircraft into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
At least 2,977 died as a result.
President Trump was not in attendance at the memorial service today, and gave a speech at the Pentagon instead. Trump wanted to give remarks at The National September 11 Memorial and Museum, and had even gotten his team to make advance visits, but opted not to after he was not allowed to make a speech.
