72nd National Film Awards: Telugu films ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, ‘Committee Kurrollu’, ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ and ‘Lucky Baskhar’ win

The 72nd National Film Awards, which rewarded films approved by CBFC between January 1 and December 31, 2024, cheered the Telugu film industry by bagging nine awards.
Directed by Nag Ashwin Kalki 2898 AD It was awarded the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Telling a Mahabharata-inspired story in a dystopian science fiction setting, the film traveled between three worlds: Kasi, the last surviving city, Shambala awaiting the birth of Kalki, and a futuristic city called Kompleks. Production designer Nitin Zihani Choudhary, who designed three different worlds with attention to detail, received the Best Production Design award. The sequel of this movie, starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, is under production.
Allu Arjun, Pushpa 2: Rule
Pushpa 2: RuleThe highest-grossing Telugu film of 2024, its director B Sukumar won the National Award for Best Original Screenplay. One of the highlights of this film was Allu Arjun’s androgynous appearance in the Gangamma jatara sequence, resonating with the cultural specificity of the festivals of the region. The film’s costume designers Deepali Noor and Sheetal Sharma won the Best Costume Design award.

Meanwhile, director Venky Atluri bagged the Best Dialogue Writer award for his blockbuster. Lucky Basar, Starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role.

Director Nanda Kishore Emani’s 35- Chinna Katha Kaadu won the national award for Best Children’s Film. Child actor Arundev also received the Best Child Artist award for 35 – Chinna Katha Kaadu. He shares the award with Riddhiman Banerjee, Topomoy Deb, Gitashree Chakraborty (Onko Ki Kothin), Athish S Shetty (Mithya)
One of the little surprises of 2024 is the debut of director Yadhu Vamsi. Committee KurrolluA nostalgic story of friendship that also discusses class and caste distinctions. Produced by Niharika Konidela, Committee Kurrollu It won the national award for Best Telugu film. P Ravi Kumar won the Best Makeup Artist award for the same film.
