Kochi water distribution upgrade project awaits govt. sanction

The Kerala Water Authority (KWA), which aims to optimize the water distribution in Kochi, and the joint project of a private company are waiting for financial sanctions from the state government.
The agreement between KWA and private asset Suez was ink in June. “The company will start after payment in advance. This will continue with the government. The first year will focus on the design and investigation of pipelines,” he said. Construction activities will begin as of the second year.
The project is jointly financed by the Asian Development Bank and the State Government. Here, KWA follows the design production-transfer model with the private company. The company has been assigned to increase the water distribution network, including operating and maintenance for 10 years. The contract was given to SUEZ for upgrading, operations and maintenance of Kochi City water supply system.
The study will begin in nine distribution zones in the city after the first year of the research. “There are nine regions in Kochi, and the focus will be to complete the construction business in three regions at the beginning. After this is done, working in the next three regions will be done,” he said.
The study involves the renewal of the water distribution system. The project aims to reduce income -free water (NRW) losses.
Authorized, “743 km of pipeline contains the flooring. This will be decided after the poll in the first year. The questionnaire will help us to analyze which pipelines should be reused. Ruins and leaked ones will be changed,” he added. After the approval of KWA, the pipeline will be re -sold.
The authority said that the project would help arrest real and visible losses and reduce them to a minimum.
“The focal point is to provide a 24 -hour water supply to all consumers with minimum interruption,” he said.
Until the seventh year, the pipeline changing in nine regions and the renewal of the pump houses will be completed. In the last three years, the focus will be operation and maintenance.
