ICE detains Chicago tamale vendor on Southwest Side, community rallies in support
CHICAGO – A rally is held on Friday morning for a Tamale seller detained by the US immigration and Customs Protection (ICE) on the southwest side of the city.
Citizen App video seems to show a US Customs and Border Protection van and ice agents outside the Home Depot behind the Assist Neighborhood around 7:30 am on Thursday.
Immigration defenders said several people, including Laura Murillo, a well -known Tamale seller in the community, were arrested.
At the time he was detained, he was selling Tamales on the 47th Street and Western Boulevard.

His fiancé Jaime Perez said he had a video interview with Murillo while he was detained.
Perez said, “It was good for its value. The only thing he wanted was a jacket because he says it’s cold there,” he said.
Murillo came from Mexico to the United States 20 years ago. He has three daughters, the youngest is 12 years old and they have special needs.
Murillo also has a small restaurant on the distant south side of the city with its 20 employees.
On Friday morning, Murillo fans sold Tamales at the intersection of 47th Street and Western Boulevard near the area where he was detained. Money from sales will help to support Murillo’s family during this time.
