Washington (Reuters) -ABD Transportation Department said on Tuesday that more than 11,000 employees in the Federal Aviation Administration will go away if the government finance continues.
US Airlines, air traffic controllers and security guards will be forced to work without paying and other functions will be stopped at midnight (0400 GMT) American aviation and slow flights warned.
FAA, paying attention to keeping the sky safe, more than 13,000 air traffic controllers would have to continue to work, but said it would not be paid until the closure ended.
The FAA is approximately 3,800 controllers from the targeted personnel levels, but even if government financing is stopped, the FAA continues to hire and train air traffic controllers. During the closure of the previous government, FAA suspended the training of recruitment and most air traffic controllers.
The National Transportation Safety Board said that approximately 25% of 400 employees would be fur, but that they could initiate new investigations on air accidents and other events, and that the investigation could continue the investigation of an American Airlines Regional Jeethe and the Army Helicopter who killed 67 people.
NTSB will store much more employees than the previous closure, 90% or more of their workers. In 2019, the agency did not send researchers to 22 accidents due to financing. However, the White House showed budget officials that they need more personnel for critical functions.
Approximately 50,000 Transportation Security Administration employees with the personnel of the airport security checkpoints will also have to continue to work, but not paid.
In 2019, during a 35 -day closure, the number of absenteeism increased by controllers and TSA officers as workers missed their salary checks and expanded the waiting time at some airports. The authorities had to slow down air traffic in New York, which implemented pressure on the MPs to quickly end.
United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and others, representing the Airline trade group airlines, warned that “the system slows down, reduces efficiency” and affects passengers.
Representing airlines, hotels, car rental companies and other travel companies, the US Travel Union, the closure of a partial US government will cost the US travel sector to 1 billion dollars a week, he said.
FAA has about 45,000 employees. In total, the transport department would carry 12,200 employees from 53,717, including FAA.
FAA, commercial aircraft and engines in addition to operational security functions, as well as commercial area launch surveillance and licensing certificate activities will continue, he said.
