Donald Trump interrupts his speech to King Charles to praise ‘unconquerable’ Rory McIlroy during State Dinner at White House

On the heels of his historic second Masters victory, Rory McIlroy was presented with another prestigious award when he was chosen by Donald Trump at the State Dinner on Tuesday night.
The 36-year-old golf star and his wife, Erica Stoll, were among the A-list guests invited to the lavish State Dinner honoring King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted by President Donald Trump at the White House.
The Northern Irishman was invited to the prestigious event less than a month after capturing his second straight win at Augusta National.
McIlroy has kept a low profile since donning the green jacket again, even skipping this week’s PGA Tour event at the President’s Trump National Doral in Miami.
But the golfer was unable to escape the spotlight on Tuesday evening when President Trump abruptly left his prepared speech to salute the golfer for his latest ‘unconquerable’ achievement.
‘This different and special character we shared brought joy to the whole world. This is unstoppable courage. This is invincible courage. Truly unconquerable… speaking of him, where’s Rory McIlroy?’ Trump questioned during part of his speech.

‘Stand up, Rory. This was invincible courage. “That was very good, Rory,” the chairman continued, referring to McIlroy’s recent Masters victory.
‘I don’t know if this will help them talk about how great the speech was, but I didn’t stop talking because I watched that guy win a tough tournament. This was a difficult thing. Congratulations. I’m proud of you.
‘Okay, I’ll get back to my speech now, Rory.’
McIlroy claimed his second green jacket by scoring a one-shot victory over World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and became the first player to go back-to-back at the Masters since Tiger Woods in 2002.
It was Trump who paid tribute to McIlroy after the victory, praising his resilience in a post on Truth Social.
Trump wrote: ‘Congratulations to Rory McIlroy on another Major Championship, The Masters! He gave a tremendous performance under intense pressure; This was something very few people would consider doing.
‘Rory becomes more and more of a LEGEND every year! I look forward to watching him race at Doral in two weeks. The quality of Professional Golfers today has become extraordinary; each.
‘They should all be proud of the way they played at The Masters this weekend!’

But while McIlroy is praised in the United States, he may not be as well received in the United Kingdom.
McIlroy, who represents the Republic of Ireland on the Olympic Stage, was left out of the New Year’s Honors list last year despite his 2025 Masters victory.
According to Telegraph Sport, McIlroy’s snub may have been prompted by a historic investment in a scheme that HM Revenue & Customs deemed tax avoidance; This is similar to the ‘red flag’ that saw Sir David Beckham repeatedly stay off the list until the England legend was knighted last year.
Time will tell whether he can achieve success again this year after his second Masters victory.
Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez were also caught entering the White House on Tuesday evening; Sanchez wore a black low-cut prom dress.
Sam Altman, who is currently in a court battle with former Department of Government Efficiency leader Elon Musk, was also photographed passing through White House security.
Many conservative media personalities were also on the guest list, including Ainsley Earhardt, Laura Ingraham, Chris Ruddy, Jesse Watters and Greg Gutfeld.
Three of Trump’s Supreme Court appointees also appeared on the guest list — Justices Amy Coney Barrett, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh — as well as conservative Justice Samuel Alito, a Bush ’43 appointee.
Trump family members included Eric Trump and his wife Lara, Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, and Tiffany Trump and her husband Michael Boulos.
Melania’s father, Victor Knavs, was also invited.
The White House said attendees will be treated to a four-course meal, starting with a heart-shaped palm salad, served with garden herb velouté, crispy fried shallots and a micro mint ‘whisper’.

From now on, spring herb ravioli, featuring herbs from the White House Kitchen Garden planted by First Lady Michelle Obama, will be served stuffed with creamy ricotta, earthy morels and garnished with a light parmesan emulsion.
The main course is fish – Dover sole meunière, prepared in hazelnut brown butter and served with spring ramps, sweet snow peas on potato pavé and finished with parsley oil.
For dessert, the White House chose to display the beehive on campus that the King and Queen visited on Monday; She served guests a beehive-shaped chocolate cake with almond joconde and vanilla bean cream pudding.
The cake will be served with creamy ice cream and White House honey.
