Tobacco auctions set to begin across 10 platforms in Karnataka from October 8

The auction of tobacco grown in Karnataka will start from 8 October on 10 platforms among the floating reports in international commodity demand.
The Tobacco Board allows a product size of 100 million kg for Karnataka for 2025, while the board of directors expects only 85.16 million kg of yield. However, unlike last year, when a significant portion of the yield is low -grade or middle class, this year’s output is expected to have a relatively higher share of the bright -grade variety.
“Considering the demand for good international tobacco grown in this region, we expect a good price this year. Also, the average price may rise when a higher part of the bright class variety is taken into consideration,” he said.
During last year’s auctions between October 2024 and April 2025, a total of 84.86 million kg tobacco was marketed at an average price of 257.62 per kg. The bright class variety consisted of 19.5 million kg, while the price of 309,18 per kg, the middle class consisted of 33.89 million kg and brought an average price of 284.50 per kg. The low -grade diversity is 33.27 million kg and has an average price of 186.79 per kg.
Considering good weather conditions and timely fertilizer supply, the Board envisaged a higher share for the bright class diversity for the future auction season. During the treatments, it is expected to contribute to an increase in timely monsoon rains and less rain, bridal degree.
The expected tobacco yield is expected to increase from 84.86 million kg to 85.16 million kg marginalized this year, but the area grown in the state fell from 66,987 hectares of 69,049 hectares.
Karnataka has 39,585 authorized breeders together with approximately 50,000 licenses. This year, the Board estimates that there are about 12,689 farmers who train unlicensed tobacco. The amount of tobacco grown unlicensed and the tobacco exceeding the authorization by licensed tobacco is expected to announce about 10 million kg this year, which is the same amount as last year.
Most of the tobacco, which is curator Virginia (FCV) grown in Karnataka, is exported to large cigarette manufacturers in the world.
Most of the tobacco grown in Karnataka are grown in Periyapatna, Hunsur and HD Kote Taluks, Arakalgud and Ramanathapura in Hassan Region.
Four of the 10 auction platforms in the state are located in Chilkunda, three in Periyapatna Taluk, and the other in Hun Kotote Taluk, Hunsur Taluk. There are two more in the Hassan region Ramanathapura. The auction season is expected to continue until April 2026.
