Pharmacies facing angry and confused patients over Covid jab eligibility

The UK pharmacies reported that NHS reservation system had to deal with angry and mixed patients after allowing inappropriate patients to book Covid Jabs.
According to Community Pharmacy ENGLAND (CPE), which represents more than 10,000 chemists, it is not actually suitable for vaccination between the third and half of the patients who reserve through the national reservation system.
CPE NHS Services Director Alastair Buxton said that many patients came to their pharmacies who reserve COVİD-19 Jab, and that they could only get the flu jab.
National Pharmacy Association (NPA), the situation for both the patient and pharmacists “deeply annoying” he said.
“This requires a lot of explanations for patients. For some patients, sadness, anxiety and perhaps anger causes anger.” He said.
He continued: “Certainly some patients have become abusive with the members of the pharmacy team.”
The release of the NHS COVİD-19 vaccine for the winter was released last week, but the criteria of receiving Jab were bored this year.
The Covid vaccine is available for people over 75 years of age for those who have a weak immune system or in the nursing home for older adults. Other groups can pay specifically for vaccination.
Previously, the vaccine was existed for groups of people much larger.
A wider group, people over 65 years of age, specific long -term conditions, pregnant women, nursing residents, certain carers and people living with someone with a weak immune system are suitable for Grip Jab this year.
It is understood that a option for people to reserve both vaccines at the same time can cause confusion.
Henry Gregg, General Manager of NPA, said, uz We are aware of the reports from all over the country of patients who are not suitable for NHS for the Covid vaccine that comes to pharmacies this year and can make an appointment through online system.
“This should be preventive and deeply frustrating for both pharmacies and patients. In this case, we urge any patient to treat the pharmacy teams respectfully while pharmacies try to manage new NHS clinical criteria.
“We urgently brought this problem with NHS UK and the Ministry of Health and we wanted it to be solved as soon as possible.”
A NHS spokesman said: “COVİD-19 Vaccine suitability changed to people aged 75 years and older to people with a weak immune system or to live in older adult care houses.
“Please check twice that you are suitable for receiving a COVİD-19 vaccine before booking.
