DCA Issues Immediate Ban on Two Cough Syrups

Haydarabad: The Telangana Government Public Health and Family Welfare Directorate (DPH & FW) issued a recommendation to all state -of -state health institutions regarding the rational use of cough syrups in children.
The directive dated October 5, 2025 follows the guidance of the General Directorate of Health Services of the Ministry of Health and Family of the Indian Government (DGHS).
According to the advice, most of the acute cough diseases in children limit itself and often do not require medication. He states that cough and colds should not be prescribed or given to children under two years of age, and that they are usually not recommended to children under five years of age. For older children, their use should follow a comprehensive clinical assessment, careful control and compliance with the shortest effective time by avoiding more than one drug combination.
DPH & FW also instructed to give priority to non -pharmacological treatments such as adequate fluid intake, resting and supportive care. All health facilities, including the first health institutions, TSMs, Regional Hospitals and Medical Faculties, were directed to the purchase and distribution of drugs produced within the scope of good production practices (GMP) using only pharmaceutical class content.
In a relevant note, TaLangana Drug Control Administration (DCA), Sresan Pharma, Tamil Nadu produced by the Coldrif Syrup (Party No. SR-13, MFG: May 2025, EXP: April 2027) issued a public warning.
Regional Medicine and Medical Officials (DM & HOS) have been instructed to spread this advice to a wide range of advice and ensure that the public is sensitive to prevent possible health hazards in children.
