West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lashes out at Amit Shah
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday targeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his proposed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in the state and alleged that he was “acting like the Prime Minister”. He also made fun of the Minister of Internal Affairs as “Mir Cafer”. CM Mamata Banerjee targeted the BJP government in Odisha and the Center for the violence in Cuttack.
Talking to reporters at the airport after visiting the flood-affected areas, CM Banerjee said, “Cuttack is burning. BJP, Bajrang Dal have done communal rights there. They will finish off the country. I have seen so many governments, but I have never seen such an arrogant and dictatorial government. They should not forget that they are in power today, they may not be there tomorrow. Nothing is permanent. How can SIR be done in 15 days?… All this is done by Amit” Shah. He acts like a caretaker Prime Minister. But Prime Minister knows everything, don’t always trust Amit Shah, he will be your Mir Jafar one day. Be careful, morning shows mark the day.”
Mir Jafar was the military general of Siraj ud-Daulah. The last independent Nawab of Bengal Subah, Who betrayed him and aided the East India Company at the Battle of Plassey in June 1757.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Monday informed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has decided to conduct Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in voter lists across the country.
Banerjee also criticized the BJP for the recent floods in the state and accused the Center of neglecting Bengal’s flood relief efforts. He also criticized the BJP for politicizing the issue. Banerjee claimed that she was working in the field, meeting affected families and distributing relief materials. The Prime Minister also criticized the BJP for allegedly neglecting its own constituencies after winning the elections.
“There can be anger at the time of flood and social tension. After the investigation, this becomes clear… I went there, but not with this type of convoy, I only had 2-3 cars with me. I also worked. I also met the family, distributed supplies. But I acted calmly… I never do politics based on natural disasters. But when the Prime Minister starts doing this, it hurts me… You don’t give money for flood relief to Bengal. How can the BJP make big claims? I was injured during the elections; They said a lot. I let go, I forgive… Is it right to take 30-40 vehicles to the flood-affected area without informing the police? I met him (Khagen Murmu), a little injured in his ears. However, he is under observation as he is a diabetic… I wish him a speedy recovery…” Bannerjee said.
