Rishab Shetty film continues to break records, breaches Rs 500-crore mark worldwide

Kantara Episode 1, also starring Gulshan Devaiah, Rukmini Vasanth and Jayaram, is set 1000 years before the first episode in the pre-colonial coastal state of Karnataka and explores the ancient roots of the Bhuta Kola ritual featured in the 2022 movie.
Kantara Part 1 crosses Rs 500 crore mark worldwide
Kantara: Episode 1, the mythological period action drama starring Rishab Shetty, continues to break box office records day by day. The prequel to 2022 blockbuster Kantara was released on October 2 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra and crossed the Rs 500 crore mark worldwide in its extended first week.
Production house Hombale Films shared the latest box office figures on its social media accounts on Friday, October 9. “The divine cinematic storm continues to soar at the box office. Kantara Part 1 crossed 509.25 CRORES+ GBOC worldwide in week 1. Blockbuster Kantara is running successfully in theaters near you,” his post read.
The Rishab Shetty film is also causing turmoil at the Hindi box office as it is only the second Kannada film after Yash’s KGF Chapter 2 to earn Rs 100 crore in its Hindi dubbed version. The Prashanth Neel directorial had collected Rs 435 crore nett from its Hindi dubbed version. In 2022, the first episode of Kantara earned a net worth of Rs 85 crore in Hindi.

It is currently the fourth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025 after Chhaava, Saiyaara and Coolie.
In March 2024, it was announced that Kantara Part 1 will premiere on Amazon Prime Video following its theatrical release. According to reports, the OTT platform has acquired the rights of the film for a whopping price of 125 million rupees. It will start airing in four southern languages in four weeks by the end of October and the Hindi dubbed version will be available in eight weeks by the end of November.
