Moody Blues’ John Lodge dead aged 82: Family issue statement after singer and bass guitarist passes away ‘suddenly and unexpectedly’

John Lodge, lead singer and bassist of Moody Blues, passed away at the age of 82.
His family said in a statement on Friday: ‘It is with deep sadness that we must announce that our beloved husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and brother, John Lodge, has been suddenly and unexpectedly taken from us.
‘As anyone who knew this big-hearted man knows, the most important thing to him was his endless love for his wife Kirsten and his family, followed by his passion and belief in music.’
The statement said: ‘John escaped peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones and the sounds of the Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly.
‘We will forever miss his love, his smile, his kindness, his absolute and unending support.

We will walk toward peace, heartbroken but surrounded by the love he had for each of us.
As John always says at the end of the show, thank you for keeping the faith.’
The sad news comes just a week after his last social media post in which he was photographed making Bordeaux red wine.
A photo uploaded to Instagram read: ‘John’s love of wine is well known… (in moderation, of course!), so he’s delighted to bring his ‘Singer in a Rock and Roll Band’ show to Uptown Theater Napa on December 6th!
‘This is John’s first solo exhibition in Napa; So why not come and enjoy an evening of Moody Blues hits and classic songs? All lovingly performed by John, the band 10,000 Light Years, and John’s son-in-law, Jon Davison of YES!
‘A show guaranteed to leave a smile on your face and a song in your heart… all ticket links at www.johnlodge.com/tour. Photo of John making his Bordeaux Red in the vineyard!’
