A. autumn and easter Hitting Massachusetts this weekend and lingering for a few more days is expected to bring heavy rain, gusty winds and Risk of flooding in coastal communities.
Latest storm timeline
Enjoy the sunshine on Friday and Saturday because the weather will turn nasty on Sunday, according to the Boston 25 Weather Team.
“Our first fall nor’easter will begin brewing this weekend, with impacts likely beginning Sunday afternoon,” the Weather Team said. he wrote in his Friday blog updates. “While the first half of the day may be dry, in the afternoon or evening it rains from south to north and the winds become stronger.”
Inside his last predictionBoston 25 Meteorologist Tucker Antico said incessant rain will continue through Monday, with showers continuing into Tuesday.
The strongest winds are expected Sunday night through Monday.
“It’s going to be windy, rainy and messy. The Monday morning commute will also be very slow in the evening. So pack your patience,” Antico said. “Make sure you have a good jacket with you. I prefer a raincoat over an umbrella, because an umbrella can fly away.”
In a post on X, Antico added: “If this were winter, we’d be talking about meters of snow.
Expected storm impacts

Driving rain: Widespread rainfall of 2 to 5 inches is expected in Eastern Massachusetts as it stands now. Higher totals are likely on Cape Cod and the Islands. The interior parts of the state are expected to receive 1 to 2 inches of precipitation.

strong winds: Winds of 40 to 55 mph may be experienced along the coastline; strongest on Cape Cod and the Islands. Winds will likely climb into the 30s to score inland areas.

flood concerns: The first signs of minor flooding may begin Friday afternoon. The most significant impacts are expected from Sunday to Monday. A coastal flood watch has been issued until 2 a.m. Tuesday for parts of Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Plymouth, Bristol, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket counties.
Officials are urging residents of flood-prone areas to check their risk using FEMA flood maps and stay alert for power outages and emergency updates.
