Zarah Sultana compares Jeremy Corbyn reunion to Gallagher brothers | Zarah Sultana

Zarah Sultana says she and Jeremy Corbyn have patched up their combustible joint leadership of a new left-wing party, with the MP likening the pair to Liam and Noel Gallagher.

Speaking alongside Corbyn at The World Transformed political festival in the Gallaghers’ hometown of Manchester, Sultana insisted they could only cooperate on the organisation, known informally as Your Party.

“Obviously you’ve all seen what’s happened in the last few weeks but I’m here to tell you the show is back on the road,” said Sultana, the Coventry South MP who was elected with the Labor vote but is now sitting as an independent.

“I know I’m in Manchester so I have to give credit to Liam and Noel Gallagher. If they can do it, of course me and Jeremy can too.”

“The only difference between us is that Jeremy still thinks Arsenal will win the Premier League and we know they will always finish second with the second-place trophy.”

The status of the new party, which is also billed as a grassroots organisation, has been in doubt for weeks after Sultana and former Labor leader Corbyn, who was re-elected as an independent MP last year, clashed bitterly over the party’s organisation.

This reached its nadir last month when Sultana said she had consulted libel lawyers following a public row with Corbyn over his decision to introduce a paid membership system for the party.

Corbyn stated that the payment site was established without approval and described it as a “fake membership system” that collects money and data without permission. He said he had forwarded the matter to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

In response, Sultana said she had been alienated from the new party by Corbyn and the “sexist boys’ club” of four pro-Gaza independent MPs.

Sultana quickly rescinded the threat of legal action, saying he had spoken to Corbyn and wanted to reconcile.

Corbyn later apologized for the events in a video message to an email list of 750,000 people who had expressed interest in the party, but Sultana was never mentioned, and she was only featured briefly in the video.

The left-wing World Transformed event used to run in parallel with the Labor Party conference but this year it is taking place after the end of Labour’s event in Liverpool.

Also in attendance was the Greens’ new leader, Zack Polanski, who Sultana has been linked to as a possible member. Polanski recently told the party conference that the Greens will challenge Labor because Keir Starmer will “hand this country on a platter” to Nigel Farage.

Speaking at Friday’s event, Sultana accused Farage of “trafficking in racism” to distract people from other events.

“The truth is that Reformation is just another wing of the political establishment,” he said. “It is funded by billionaires and aristocrats, headed by millionaire stockbroker Nigel Farage, a former public school student. He peddles racism to distract us from the real agenda: more privatisation, more deregulation, more aid for the rich, more cuts to everyone else.”

Corbyn said his new party should work with the Greens and local independent parties.

He said: “There will be opportunities and points where we will have to work with the Greens. Sometimes there will be points where we disagree with the Greens. So we have our identity, we have our principles and we have our position, but we are concerned about making progress in our society and that will mean working with many different people, there is nothing wrong with that.”
