Lokesh To Set Stone For World-Class Data Centre Hub In Vizag Today

: Education and IT minister Nara Lokesh will lay the foundation stone of Sify’s AI Edge Data Center outside the Open Cable Landing Station (CLS) in Visakhapatnam on October 12, which is expected to create five lakh information technology jobs in the port city.

The initiative in Vizag is part of the NDA coalition government’s focus on technology-led growth aimed at transforming the landscape of north Andhra.

Developed by Sify Infinit Spaces, a subsidiary of Nasdaq-listed Sify Technologies, the AI-based data center marks Visakhapatnam’s emergence as India’s next global digital gateway in the future. It will improve undersea cable connectivity and strengthen AI infrastructure across the region.

The data center will come up with 3.6 acres of land allocated by the state government with an estimated investment of ₹1,500 crore in two phases and will create employment opportunities for over 1,000 people.

The proposed 50 MW AI Edge Data Center will support advanced computing at the edge, in line with AP’s vision of technological advancement and digital transformation.

The accompanying new Visakhapatnam Cable Landing Station (CLS) will significantly improve subsea connectivity, enabling faster data processing between India and countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and Thailand. Once operational, Visakhapatnam CLS is set to serve as a key strategic landing point in the digital network that will connect South and Southeast Asia.

Telugu Desam AP state president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao highlighted the ongoing efforts under the leadership of Minister Nara Lokesh to position Visakhapatnam as a global data hub. He highlighted that a central government-backed deal worth ₹87,500 crore with Google-affiliated firm Raiden will strengthen the port city’s IT infrastructure.

Drawing comparisons with established global data centres, the TD state president said Visakhapatnam will emerge as a leading hub and strengthen the State’s Vision 2047 objective of transforming AP into “Golden Andhra Pradesh”.

Srinivasa Rao highlighted that these initiatives of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, from IT parks to data centres, are driven by the coalition government’s commitment to industrial growth.
