Construction robots are no longer a distant idea. They are already changing job sites by tackling repetitive, heavy and often dangerous tasks. The newest robot comes from Australia, where a spider-like machine called Charlotte has made headlines.
Charlotte was designed to be able to 3D print an entire 2,150-square-foot home in just one day. This is equivalent to the speed of more than 100 bricklayers working simultaneously. This offers a glimpse into how the future of housing could be built.

How does Charlotte the robot work?
Charlotte is a collaboration between Crest Robotics and Earthbuilt Technology. The robot doesn’t just stack bricks or connect rebar. Instead, it uses a giant extrusion system that layers environmentally friendly materials.
This material comes from sand, crushed brick and recycled glass, all locally sourced. Conclusion? A structure that is fireproof, flood resistant and has a much smaller carbon footprint than traditional construction methods.
SUSTAINABLE 3D PRINTED HOUSE BUILT PRIMARYLY FROM EARTH
Why does Charlotte the Robot stand out?
This 3D printed construction robot stands out with its unique blend of speed, power, versatility and affordability.
- Speed: A house is raided within 24 hours.
- Force: Uses durable, sustainable materials.
- Versatility: It can lift itself up on spider-like legs to continue building higher walls.
- Economy: It eliminates many of the expensive steps in construction.
While Charlotte is still in development, a scaled-down prototype has already been unveiled. Researchers believe this could help solve the housing shortage in places where labor is scarce and construction costs are soaring.

The future of 3D printed moon bases beyond Earth
Charlotte’s creators also have their sights set on the stars. They imagine future versions of robots building moon bases for research and exploration. With its compact design and autonomous operation, Charlotte was able to adapt to the harsh environments of space as well as the challenges on Earth.
NEW ROBOT THAT CAN MAKE HOUSEHOLDING A BASTARD
What does this mean for you?
If Charlotte keeps her promise, it could reshape the way homes are built around the world. Faster construction means faster housing availability. Lower costs and sustainable materials mean more affordable homes with smaller environmental impact. For anyone facing rising housing prices or construction delays, technology like Charlotte could bring a glimmer of hope.

Kurt’s important takeaways
Charlotte may be years away from building her first full-scale home, but her prototype already points to a future where robots will take on critical roles in construction. From tackling the world’s housing crises to building shelters on the moon, Charlotte shows how robotics and 3D printing can work together to solve real problems.
