Folk singer Maithili Thakur has joined the BJP ahead of the 2025 Bihar Elections.

Folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur joined the BJP in Patna in the presence of state BJP chief Dilip Jaiswal ahead of the 2025 Bihar Election. He is likely to contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections from Alinagar seat.

What did Maithili Thakur say after joining the BJP?

After joining the BJP, Thakur said: “I am very impressed by the Prime Minister and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. Inspired by them, I am here to support them… I do not believe that joining a political party makes you a politician; I am here to serve the society and convey their ideology to everyone… I am the daughter of Mithila, my soul lives in Mithila… The party will know what they think of me; I am just here support them. What is the party If he commands, I will do it.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the BJP released its first list of 71 candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections, which includes Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha and six state ministers from Tarapur and Lakhisarai seats respectively. The list also includes nine women candidates, including Minister Renu Devi, who is seeking re-election from Bettiah Assembly constituency. MLA and Arjuna award winner Shreyasi Singh will contest from Jamui seat to win another term.

Bihar Elections 2025

Bihar Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in two phases on November 6 and 11. The counting of votes will be done on November 14.
