Scone horseman Brett Cavanough is counting on the weight of the numbers to give his stable a successful day at Gunnedah on Sunday.
Cavanough, who trains in partnership with daughter Georgie, will be represented by 12 starters across the nine-race card at Gunnedah, lining up in the Indifference Manion Drilling Gunnedah Showcase Cup (1600m), the event that carries eligibility for the Big Dance.
“It won’t be an easy race against Tavos,” Cavanough said.
“But Indifference was talented on time and this was a better effort on Scone’s last start.
“He did well in the Wellington Cup and the Tamworth Cup and was on track in both, but I hope he can do his best and have a good race.”
Kody Nestor will ride Indifference and the jockey will also partner Currumbin Road in the Pursehouse Rural Gunnedah Class 1 and Maiden Showcase Plate (2150m).
“He races well with three consecutive second-place finishes to his name,” Cavanough said.
“Jockey [Andrew Adkins] When he ran over a mile at Scone last time we got rid of him and told him to go further, which we did.
“Knocking on the door to win”
Cavanough will start with Honniball Drive (Jasmine Urquhart-Warren) and Sweet Leaf (Luke Rolls) in the Cool Blue Ice 2YO Showcase Handicap (1000m) while Daisy Duck (Ben Looker) will race in the CL Rural Showcase Super Maiden Plate (1400m), finishing as favorite in the final starting seconds at Mudgee.
Water Lad (Rolls) and Arapawa (Urquhart-Warren) will compete in the Haires Bus Service Country Boosted Benchmark 58 Showcase Handicap (1250m), while Looker will race Iknowyou in the Ultrafleet Country Boosted Benchmark 58 Showcase Handicap (1250m).
The final event of the day, the Courthouse Hotel Gunnedah Lightning Showcase Handicap (1000m), will feature four Cavanough runners with Rhythm Is A Dancer (Urquhart-Warren), Hellcibell (Looker), Vierville (Jenny Duggan) and Harbor Gold (Rolls).
“Vierville has been racing well with a few recent wins and has drawn the inside door where he should be available,” Cavanough said.
