Sydney player Charlie Curnow says he had a great working relationship with Michael Voss and will fondly remember his four years playing under the Carlton coach.

A day after his move to the Swans was finalized in the closing minutes of the trade window, Curnow announced his departure from the Blues.

Curnow said he needed a fresh start after nine years at Ikon Park but did not speak to other clubs until the end of the season.

He spoke highly of Voss and denied speculation that his relationship with the Blues coach had become strained this year.

“Not at all,” Curnow said at the launch of the Swan role at Sydney’s Melbourne office in South Melbourne.

“After all, it’s a very high-pressure environment.

“I guess I can say that some of the things that are leaking out are not true. It’s always tough environment football and there’s going to be a lot of challenges that come with that. But for me and him, I don’t see our relationship being affected by that at all.”

“It’s hard to have a few good conversations with him at the end of the season, if I want to get traded, you just have to do it, you can’t just look over his shoulder and start putting myself out there.

“I think we are in a pretty healthy place and as I said before, I played some great football under him and I thank him very much for that.

“It’s like this was a tough part of my career, I had a knee injury and then I tried to play. He handled it wonderfully.”

Curnow said he would contact Voss again to thank him.

“I played great football under Vossy, we had a great relationship,” Curnow said.

“I owe him a lot, I came back from injury and was able to play under him for three years in a row and play good football.

“When I look back, when I finish playing football, when I play under him, it will be one of my best memories.”
