Houthis say chief of staff killed after Israeli strikes

Yemen’s Houthi rebels said Chief of Staff Mohammed Abd Al-Karim al-Ghamari, one of the group’s most senior military officials, was killed “while performing his duties.”
The Houthis said that the conflict with Israel has not ended, without blaming Israel directly for his killing.
Israel “will receive deterrent punishment for the crimes it has committed.”
The Houthi announcement included no details about when or how he was killed.
In August, Israel targeted the Houthi group’s chief of staff, defense minister and other senior figures in airstrikes on Sanaa in Yemen; The prime minister of Yemen’s Houthi-run government and many other ministers were killed in these attacks.
Israel later said the airstrike targeted Al Gamari, the defense minister and other senior officials, confirming the result.
Ghamari was a member of the Houthis’ “Jihad Office” led by Abd al-Malik al-Houthi, which was responsible for overseeing military operations.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on channel X on Thursday that Ghamari was attacked in the Israeli attack.
“We will do the same against any threat in the future,” he said.
The Houthis had fired missiles at Israel in what they said were acts of solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and most of them were captured.
Israel responded with attacks on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen.
Houthi leader Abdulmalik al-Houthi said last week that the group would monitor Israel’s compliance with the Gaza Strip ceasefire agreement and would continue support for the region if Israel does not comply.
Al-Ghamari was sanctioned by the United Nations for his role in the country’s decade-long war.
In imposing sanctions on al-Ghamari, the UN described him as playing “a leading role in organizing cross-border attacks against Saudi Arabia, as well as the Houthis’ military efforts that directly threaten the peace, security and stability of Yemen.”
