Middle school locked down on reports of possible shooting
A possible shooting was reported at a middle school in the South Park district of South Los Angeles around noon on Thursday, but so far no evidence of a shooting has been found.
The Los Angeles Police Department said the possible assault was reported a few minutes after noon at 644 56th Street.
This address corresponds to Los Angeles Academy Middle School.
The investigation is ongoing and multiple family members were seen standing outside the school during the quarantine.
School Principal Ruben Hernandez said in a statement that there was no evidence of a shooting or gunshot so far, but officials said the school was quarantined as of 13:45 in the afternoon.
“The safety and well-being of our students and staff remains my top priority… [O]”Our campus remains under quarantine due to a report received from a community member regarding a possible gun and shooting on campus,” he said. “The administrative team took swift action to resolve the matter with local law enforcement.
“Please be advised that there is no evidence of any injuries or shootings reported. Students and staff are safe at this time as law enforcement and district staff continue to respond.”
“We continue to follow district protocols and all students and staff are safe. We will provide updates as they become available. Thank you.”
