King Charles considers removing Prince Andrew’s royal title | Royal | News

A royal source told the publication: “It feels like we’re reaching a tipping point.”

Other options include removing the duke from the Order of the Garter, a former order of chivalry that Andrew has been a part of since 2006, or evicting him from his luxury 30-room home, the Royal Lodge.

Stripping Andrew of his Duchy is not an easy or simple process, as only Parliament has the power to remove it. But the decision is likely to be supported by the public, as a recent YouGov poll showed 67 per cent of Britons support removing their remaining titles.

But there is a legal mechanism for this, last used during the First World War to impose sanctions on aristocrats who held British titles but fought in the German army.

However, the Palace is concerned that such a move would be a waste of Parliament’s time.

Just this week, Andrew’s public image was further damaged by the publication of Ms. Giuffre’s memoirs. She said the “entitled” prince thought it was his “birthright” to sleep with her.

Emails were also revealed in the BBC Newsnight interview, casting doubt on her claim that she stopped communicating with Epstein after meeting him in New York in December 2010. In newly released emails allegedly written by Andrew in 2011, the Duke tells Epstein “we are in this together” and tells him to “stay in close contact”.

He is said to have signed: “A, HRH The Duke of York, KG.”

In an interview with Emily Maitlis in November 2019, Andrew told her: “I’ve cut off contact with her [Epstein] “When I learned he was under investigation, it was in late 2006, and I did not contact him again until 2010.”

And that’s not the only scandal that has caused embarrassment for the Firm, as it was revealed that it invited Cai Qi, the official at the center of the Chinese spying scandal, to Buckingham Palace for lunch.
