Prince Andrew tonight decided to give up his royal titles and honors with immediate effect in the wake of the ongoing Epstein scandals. He will no longer join the Royal Family at Christmas and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson will no longer use the title of Duchess of York.
Andrew said the decision was taken “following discussions with the King and my immediate and wider family”. The Prince of Wales was closely involved in the discussions. The king’s younger brother said he continued to “strongly deny the accusations against me.”
Former monarch Queen Elizabeth II. As Elizabeth’s son, he will retain his birthright as prince. Daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were not affected by tonight’s decision.
He will also relinquish his knighthood as a Grand Knight’s Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO) and his role as Garter as a Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.
Andrew had already stopped being a royal and lost his HRH title and patronages following his disastrous BBC Newsnight interview in November 2019.
It appears that the King was pleased with the result that Andrew himself, but together with the King, achieved.
The latest development in the long-running controversy comes just days before the release of Andrew’s memoir, which he allegedly paid millions to settle a civil sexual assault lawsuit by his late alleged victim, Virginia Giuffre.
