How two British women rowed from Peru to Australia

A pair of British women reached Australia’s east coast on Saturday after a grueling six-month journey rowing across the Pacific Ocean from Peru.

Jess Rowe and Miriam Payne crewed their boat in two-hour shifts, fishing and growing their own vegetables to make ends meet along the way.

The duo say they are the first all-female crew to make the nearly 13,000-kilometer (8,000-mile) journey across the Pacific uninterrupted and unsupported.

They left Peru in April and arrived in Cairns, Australia, on October 18 to cheers from their supporters. Shortly after completing their journey, they spoke to the BBC about their experiences.
