Efforts to pacify Sudhakaran fail; veteran CPI(M) leader to skip KSKTU event

Attempts to pacify the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] Leader G. Sudhakaran, who is at loggerheads with the party, seems to have failed as the party’s affiliate KSKTU’s official magazine Karshaka Thozhilali decided to skip the award ceremony organized by him at Mankombu in Kuttanad on Sunday (October 19, 2025).

In the morning, Mr. Sudhakaran left his home for Kollam to attend another programme. Talking to the media, the senior CPI(M) leader said the organizers could run the program on their own and his presence was not required.

Last week, CPI(M) leaders CS Sujatha, R. Nazar and M. Sathyapalan visited Mr. Sudhakaran at his residence and invited him to the award distribution ceremony to be held in Mankombu on Sunday evening (October 19, 2025), which will be attended by party general secretary MA Baby, External Affairs Minister MV Govindan and other leaders. The visit came a day after Mr Sudhakaran accused his party colleague and Fisheries and Culture Minister Saji Cherian of conspiring to expel him from the party along with several other leaders.

Later in an interview HinduMr. Sudhakaran said that there was no problem with the party and he remained a member of CPI(M). Regarding Saji Cherian, he said Mr Cherian had made an “un-Marxian” statement against him through the press. “In his statement, he asked me to walk shoulder to shoulder with the party. I replied that I was already inside the party, not outside it. I am a party man. Every party member is within the party structure. The issue was the statement made by Saji Cherian. A member with 62 years of experience in the undivided party and CPI(M) should not talk like that about him. Saji Cherian was just a school student when I became a cadre of the party.” said Sudhakaran.

It is not yet known why he made a U-turn to the KSKTU program, for which he had previously accepted the invitation.
