Piers Morgan hints at potential run for prime minister: ‘It’s time to get tough’

Journalist and presenter Piers Morgan has hinted at a potential run for prime minister, claiming he would take a “tough” approach to national leadership.
The 60-year-old host of the program uncensored YouTube show made comments in interview Destan Magazine.
He said: “There was talk of ‘Prime Minister instead of Prime Minister’ and Piers Morgan as Prime Minister, why not?
“There are a lot of people in this country right now who feel betrayed by successive governments, whether it’s the NHS, the boat stopping or the state of the roads.”
Mr Morgan said a 1 per cent tax on income going directly to the NHS would be among the items in his manifesto.
“Taking a page from (U.S. President Donald) Trump’s book, I would call (French) President (Emmanuel) Macron and tell him that unless he does something about the boats, we will impose a 1,000 percent tariff on French imports.
“It’s time to toughen up.”
Mr Morgan, speaking of turning 60 earlier this year, said he was “taking more care of myself than I did 30 years ago” and revealed he had taken up boxing.
He added: “I’m watching what I eat and exercising more – I’ve even taken up boxing and no, it’s not because I get into fights all the time.
“The only person who punched me was Jeremy Clarkson at the 2004 Press Awards.
“It wasn’t a very big punch, but it left a scar on my right temple… my Harry Potter scar.”

He explained: “My wife Celia (Walden) writes about men doing fat grafting, but I’m not one of them.
“I know some guys who go through this, lose muscle mass and appetite and don’t want to go to the bar.
“They’re puny and boring.”
