Kollam native confirmed dead in Mozambique boat tragedy

A Kollam native who went missing in the recent boat tragedy off the coast of Mozambique has been confirmed dead, MP NK Premachandran said in Kollam on Monday, October 20, 2025.

The deceased has been identified as Sreerag Radhakrishnan (35) of Naduvilakara, Thevalakkara.

He and another person, Indrajith (22) from Piravom in Ernakulam district, were reported missing after the boat carrying them to tanker MT Sea Quest for maintenance work capsized on October 16.

There were 21 people, 14 of whom were Indians, on the boat that capsized near the port of Beira.

“Authorities in Mozambique confirmed Sreerag’s death. The body was found following a search operation,” Mr Premachandran said. PTI.

MP Kollam said the body was in a badly decomposed state when recovered. “The authorities assured that all necessary steps will be taken to send the body to India,” he added.

Meanwhile, according to the statements of his relatives, the search for Indrajith continues. Sreerag’s family said he left for Mozambique only on October 13.

They said he had been working in a transport company for seven years and returned to India six months ago after the birth of his son.

The family said they were waiting for communication from the Indian High Commission regarding the repatriation of the bodies.
