Lions suffocate Buccaneers for huge win

The Detroit Lions made a big statement Monday night, defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-9.

The Lions were hoping to avoid losing their third game of the season as they welcomed the Buccaneers to Ford Field. Baker Mayfield was rumored to be an MVP candidate, but he also had to deal with injuries to two of his weapons in Mike Evans and Emeka Egbuka.

Detroit game Jared Goff’s Amon-Ra St. He opened it with a goal against Brown. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs ripped a 78-yard field goal through a giant hole at the line of scrimmage in the second quarter.

Goff was 20-of-29 for 241 yards, one touchdown pass and one interception. Gibbs rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns. He also had three catches for 82 yards.

Lions defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard was able to get his defense ready and ready to harass Mayfield and the Buccaneers all night long.

The defense managed to get to Mayfield four times in the game, forcing two turnovers.

The last time the Lions allowed fewer than 10 points was against the Minnesota Vikings in the final week of the 2024 regular season.

Evans and Egbuka entered the game in a daze. Evans left the game after suffering a concussion and shoulder injury. Egbuka was targeted several times but could not do enough to give Mayfield a lifeline during the game.

Bucs coach Todd Bowles said Evans suffered a broken collarbone and will likely miss most of the season.

Mayfield was 28-of-50 for 228 yards and a touchdown to Tez Johnson, who had four catches for 58 yards. Cade Otton led the Buccaneers receivers with seven catches for 65 yards.

Detroit improved to 5-2 with the win and proved to be one of the NFC’s best teams. Despite losses to the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs, the Lions have shown no signs of taking their foot off the gas pedal.

Tampa Bay falls to 5-2 and really needs a bye week to get healthy. The pirates’ wishes will come true in two weeks. They will hit the road next week to face the New Orleans Saints.
