Shaun Wane hits back at Aaron Woods after motivational criticism
There was a widespread view that Woods’ attack on Slater had galvanized the Queensland players and they rallied behind their beleaguered coach to win the final two games of the series and lift the shield.
Wane said his comments had been widely discussed among his England players and would be used as motivation.
“Oh yeah, that was mentioned,” Wane said of his team.
“I’m not on social media, but my daughter sent this to me. My daughter is very protective of me, both my daughters. They were a little angry. So were the players.
“We will find out on Saturday, but if we get the victory it will be up to him.”
Woods also criticized the selection of AJ Brimson in the England team, telling the Poms they had little chance of beating the Aussies with a player who, Woods claimed, “couldn’t get into the Queensland team”.
“I had a lot of conversations with AJ,” Wane said.
“He’s a champion guy and he’s very well coached. Stuff like that, we all have thick skin in this game. You’re not going to be impressed by some of these comments. He’s going to get fired up but he’s going to have his reasons, AJ. He’s a great guy.”
