NFL star Travis Kelce teams up with activist investor Jana Partners to help reshape the future Six Flags Entertainment Corp.
Jana announced Tuesday that it has partnered with Kelce, consumer executive Glenn Murphy and technology executive Dave Habiger in an investment group that now owns a roughly 9% economic stake in the amusement park operator.
Six Flags shares rose more than 15% on Tuesday following the news.
Jana said the group plans to collaborate with Six Flags’ board and management to explore ways to “increase shareholder value and improve the guest experience.”
Kelce, who won two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs and is the fiancee of pop star Taylor Swift, said the partnership is also personal.
“I have been a Six Flags fan my entire life and grew up going to these parks with my family and friends,” he said in a statement. “The chance to help make Six Flags special for the next generation is an opportunity I can’t pass up.”
The move comes as Six Flags tries to revive attendance and profitability after years of leadership changes and a pandemic-induced collapse. Despite Tuesday’s rally, the stock is still down about 48% this year.
Scott Ostfeld, the firm’s managing partner, announced the investment at the 13D Monitor Active-Passive Investor Summit on Tuesday. The Wall Street Journal first reported the move.
