Kerala rains: IMD withdraws red alert, puts 10 districts on orange alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) withdrew its red alert for Idukki, Palakkad and Malappuram districts on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
The latest weather bulletin issued by IMD on Wednesday has put Idukki, Palakkad and Malappuram districts on orange alert along with Kozhikode, Wayanad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta where very heavy rains are likely to occur in the next 24 hours.
A yellow alert has also been issued for Kasaragod, Kannur, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram, warning of isolated heavy rain.
Meanwhile, the well-marked low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to move towards the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and southern Andhra Pradesh after intensifying into a depression and the system is expected to intensify further in the next 24 hours.
Due to the effect of the system, storms and lightning are expected to continue in some parts of Kerala for the next few days.
Following the forecast of heavy rain, the district administrations had declared a holiday for educational institutions in the districts, which were previously on red alert, along with Pathanamthitta.
However, no heavy rainfall was recorded anywhere in Kerala in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Wednesday.
