Given the revelations about her friendship with late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, you’d think Sarah Ferguson would be commercially untouchable.

A spokesman for Ferguson did not respond to a request for comment.

In the film, Australian actor Joel Edgerton plays Robert Grainier, a logger and railroad worker living in the forests of the Pacific Northwest and experiencing a family tragedy. Adapted from a novel by Denis Johnson.

Edgerton, who lives in Hampstead, north-west London, with his wife and their nearly five-year-old twins, says he was deeply moved by the film’s portrayal of grief.

He calls it ‘a little movie that speaks loudly’. It says: ‘When [director] Clint [Bentley] and we had our first meeting. My children, who were currently running around downstairs, were one and a half year old twins.

‘And of course, I was much more emotionally affected by the second reading and adaptation of the novella, because of what happened to my character…as she was dealing with loss.

‘The other day my brother said to me: ‘I was watching Train Dreams and it felt like I was just watching you.’

‘And I said: ‘That was the point.’ My greatest fear is now wrapped around my children; and so the challenge to get my brain into this space would work, because it didn’t take a lot of imagination to deal with these darker aspects of him – because they’re always swirling around in the back of any parent’s mind.’

Unlike Grainier, who spent months away from home felling trees, Edgerton says he has a rule of returning every two weeks to spend time with his children, whom he shares with his wife, magazine journalist Christine Centenera.

He says he loves riding the Heath with them; and ‘occasionally’ he’ll take a dip in one of Hampstead’s famous swimming pools. ‘I wouldn’t say it’s enjoyable, but I get something out of it.’
