NHRC Member Visits Chittoor Apollo University Over Hidden Camera Case

Nellore: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) member Vijaya Bharathi Sayani visited Apollo University in Chittoor on Wednesday to investigate the alleged installation of a hidden camera in the women’s toilet on the campus. In the first week of this month, a student noticed the camera and notified the administration, who in turn filed a complaint with the police. Speaking to the media after the visit, the commissioner said that the NHRC took up the case suo motu after learning about the incident through newspapers and TV channels and treated the incident as a serious human rights violation. Sayani said police investigation is currently ongoing. While full details have not yet been disclosed, the defendants were arrested and released on bail. He said he asked the police to conduct a transparent and speedy investigation and ensure that the culprits are brought to justice as soon as possible. In this context, NHRC member university officials organized a review meeting with faculty members and students. The university informed him that an internal committee had been constituted in accordance with the rules of the institution to address various issues. After her interaction with the students, Sayani said that no new complaints or issues were reported. Those present at the review meeting included Apollo University president, registrar Pothuraju, chief operating officer Naresh Reddy and senior police officers, including DSPs Jyothi and Harinath Reddy.
