The father of a French girl who was allegedly raped and murdered by an Algerian woman residing illegally in France died of grief following the brutal death of his daughter, according to her family.
12-year-old Lola Daviet was seen on security cameras returning home from school on October 14, 2022, but was found dead in the trunk of her family’s workplace hours later. Dahbia Benkired, an Algerian woman living in the same apartment complex with a deportation order, is accused of raping, torturing and killing the young girl.
Benkired, then 24, allegedly lured Lola to his flat, then attacked her with scissors and a box cutter, partially cutting off her head. Lola’s head, nose and mouth were tied with tape, causing her to suffocate. It was claimed that Benkired forced the young girl to undress and had sexual intercourse.
The horrific details of Lola’s ordeal were revealed in court this week when Benkired’s trial began.
On Wednesday, Lola’s heartbroken mother Delphine Daviet told the court how her sober husband, Johan, continued drinking on the day their daughter was killed. “He drank from morning to evening,” he said.
He stated that he “died of grief” and was tortured by his “demons”. Johan died in February last year.
Before she died, she hung a letter on the door of Benkired’s house with the following inscription: “My darling, I still do not understand why so much cruelty and barbarism is being done to you, so kind-hearted to you.”
“I can’t wait to see you again,” the note continued, signing: “Your father who loved you forever.”
Lola’s brother, Thibault Daviet, also spoke in court on behalf of the entire family, including his late father.
He said: “I want to speak on behalf of the whole family… and of course on behalf of my father, who unfortunately is no longer here because of the same person. We ask you to tell all of France and us the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.”
Disturbing footage was shown to the court showing Lola’s alleged killer carrying a trunk containing her remains into the bar. Security cameras also recorded the immigrant opening a suitcase containing the girl’s body while sitting in a crowded workplace in Paris after the murder.
According to authorities, the numbers ‘1’ and ‘0’ were mysteriously written on the victim’s feet. A doctor told the court Lola suffered 38 injuries to her back and neck before she drowned.
“There is physical, psychological and moral suffering,” the doctor said as images of Benkired’s injuries were shown to the court on the second day of his trial. “Asphyxia is a very concerning condition, it goes beyond physical pain. There’s probably been one or more blows to the head, which creates physical pain.”
Several family members walked out of the courtroom when images of Lola’s injuries were displayed.
The court was told of other horrific details, including that Lola had “visible traumatic injuries” to her private parts.
The doctor also said, “There was hemorrhagic trauma to various parts of the body, especially the child’s private parts.” It was also alleged that she was forced to perform sexual acts on Benkired and that she had a “large wound” on her face, her back was slashed and her “head was partially cut off”.
Lola was seen entering the apartment and talking to Benkired around 3 p.m. before being taken to an apartment. Benkired is accused of dragging Lola’s body in a plastic crate through Paris and dumping it on the street, where it was found by a homeless man.
Lola’s family left the courtroom when harrowing images of Lola’s naked body, stuffed into a suitcase, her arms tied together and her face completely covered with tape, were displayed.
Benkired moved to France in 2013 when he was 14 years old. However, a deportation order was issued for him after overstaying his student visa in August 2022, just two months before Lola was killed.
