Telangana HC Upholds PD Act on Dhoolpet Ganja Smuggler

Hyderabad: According to a statement, the Telangana High Court on Tuesday upheld the Preventive Detention (PD) Act imposed on Ganja smuggler Arunabai alias Anguribai of Dhoolpet.

Based on the recommendation of the Prohibition and Excise Department, the then Hyderabad District Collector Anudeep Durisetty issued a Preventive Detention order against Arunabai, who was a habitual offender and was involved in the sale of marijuana in Dhoolpet and surrounding areas. The ministry detained him on March 10, 2025.

The detention order was approved by the Advisory Board and GO Rt number 4479 was issued by the Telangana government on April 15, 2025.

The government and the arrest orders were challenged by Arunabai’s family members before the Supreme Court. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court pronounced the verdict and upheld the orders of the Hyderabad district Collector and the State government and dismissed the petition filed by Arunabai’s family members.

Shahnawaz Qasim, Enforcement Director, Prohibition and Excise Department, appreciated the efforts of Dhoolpet Excise Inspector J. Madhubabu to submit the documents to the concerned in a timely manner. He also directed the STF teams to focus on ganja and other drugs, especially within the GHMC limits, and instructed all teams to keep a strict vigil on ganja sales and other drug activities.
